The Newport International Polo Tour was a special experience. Never before had I played polo in front of such a large crowd. On this particular day, over 7,500 spectators gathered around the polo grounds, enjoying a beautiful afternoon in Newport. I was honored to be invited to represent Singapore against the United States in the Annual Newport International Polo Series. Not only was this an incredible opportunity to showcase my skills on an international stage, but it was also one of the most welcoming and memorable experiences I've had in the sport.
The atmosphere was electric—playing in front of such an enthusiastic and supportive audience was both exhilarating and nerve-racking. The organization behind the event was exceptionally professional and hospitable, showing us not only the incredible polo available in Newport, but also the many other unique Newport experiences, such as Mansion tours and yachting.
Beyond the match itself, what made the experience truly unforgettable were the people I met. I formed many new friendships and built valuable connections with fellow players, organizers, and attendees. It was a reminder of how sport has the power to unite individuals from all walks of life, and I’m grateful to have been a part of it.
The match itself was a tight-fought battle beyond what was displayed on the scoreboard. Both sides playing a very physical and disciplined style of polo. Fortunately, we were able to keep our lead for all 6 chukkas, eventually winning 12-8. A special thank you to Ameer Jumabhoy for inviting me to play in this special tournament, and to Agnes and Dan Keating for organizing such a fun and unforgettable experience on and off the field.
